Loneliness

One day I walked a lonely path
I heard a river flowing
I saw the scarlet, golden forms
That Autumn winds were blowing.
I felt so sad so all alone
I had no love to call my own.
Alone in this secluded spot.
I paused awhile and thought and thought.

I heard the dancing maples sing
They chuckled and I wondered whether
Was all this gladness of the sun
Or because they were together.
I felt so sad so all alone
I had no joy to call my own.
Alone in this secluded spot
I paused a while and thought and thought.

I saw the swallows as they flew
Their glory knew no bounds
I knew they'd soon build their cosy nests
For happy childhood sounds.
I felt so sad so all alone
I had no home to call my own.
Alone in this secluded spot
I paused a while and thought and thought.

The winds then blew with stronger force
I watched the leaves that fell
Into the river to be brought
To places none could tell.
I thought no wonder they rejoice
Great adventures come them there
I felt so sad so all alone
The path ahead looked so forlorn
Alone in this secluded spot
I paused a while and thought and thought.

At the edge of that river I made a choice
I'll take my life there's none to care,
Then by my side I heard a voice
I looked around but none was there.
It came again - I love you child
Please accept my love, my joy, my home
The teardrops flowed I began to smile
Someone had claimed me as His own.

No more could I feel all alone
I'd found such love to call my own.
Such joy I felt who would have thought
God dwelt in that secluded spot.
